The Art of the Trinket: Wax Carving Workshop
Get ready to turn your creative ideas into wearable art! Inspired by Katie Bourchier’s residency at the Ipswich Art Gallery, this hands-on workshop invites you to dive into the magic of lost-wax carving. While Katie explores myth, narrative and adornment in her studio, you’ll be learning the skills to create your own personal talismans.
In this relaxed 3-hour session, you will learn how to sculpt, carve, and shape jewellers wax into unique trinkets. This workshop is not for rings, we will be focussing on pendants, objects and charms.
What’s in Store
• Creative Carving: Learn the basics of impressing, carving and engraving wax to create one-of-a-kind designs.
• Low Stakes: To ensure freedom and fun, Katie will cast your designs in brass. This workshop is for newbies to wax.
• Expert Inspiration: Channel Katie’s strange creatures, botanicals and text based work in a friendly, collaborative environment.
• From Wax to Wearable: Your finished wax trinket will be cast in Brass and finished / polished by Katie, arriving to your mailbox 2-3 weeks after the workshop
What to Bring
• Inspiration: If you already have a design idea, please bring along a reference image. To keep things at a nice "trinket" scale, ensure your image is no larger than 5cm x 5cm.
• An Open Mind: No previous experience is necessary! Some of the work is quite fine, so magnifying glasses are great if typically needed.
The Details
